1.       CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER  SEPTEMBER HAPPY HOUR – At Champs Sports Grill, 1611 N Atherton St, State College in the back bar area on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 5:30 pm–7:30 pm. Please note the later time.   Come join your fellow alumni to reminisce with cocktails, good food, and great  conversation. Meet new members or bring some friends along with you to join the Chapter.  There is a $5 charge for non-members which is waived if you become a member.  Membership forms will be  available to fill out.

2.       PENN STATE HOMECOMING PARADE - The Centre County Chapter will be marching in the homecoming parade on Friday, October 7, 2016.  If you are interested in marching or riding in the Molly Trolley, please contact Amy Farkas at afarkas96@yahoo.com or 883-0808 by  Wednesday, September 28.  You must provide the name for each individual marching or riding , an email  address and  (if a Penn State Alumnus) class year.  We will be putting out information to those who have signed up on what we will be wearing for our Chapter Theme, meeting location and time.

3.       SPEND A SUMMER DAY 2016 - Spend a Summer Day was reported as a great success again this year!  We want to thank our own Linda Rohrer for her continued support to organize all the volunteers.  Much thanks to all of our Alumni Volunteers who greeted, answered questions and provided directions to our potential students and their families.  Many said they were very impressed by the friendliness, dedication, energy, and love for Penn State by all of Alumni.

2.       CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER  AUGUST  HAPPY HOUR – The August Happy Hour will be at Bill PICKLE’S Tap Room, 106 S Allen St, State College on  Friday, August  12, 2016 from  5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Come join your fellow alumni to reminisce with cocktails, good food, and great  conversation. Meet new members or bring some friends along with you to join the Chapter.  There is a $5 charge for non-members which is waived if you become a member. Membership forms will be  available to fill out.

3.       MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND PUT ON YOUR THINKING CAPS for Penn State Homecoming 2016 -  The overall theme is: “OLD STATE, INSPIRING NEW BEGININGS”. The Centre County Chapter will be marching in the parade again this year.  We are looking for a great winning chapter theme and/or idea for costume or shirt design that all of the marchers can wear to represents the overall homecoming theme and how we as the Centre County Alumni embody it. There will be a prize for the chapter member with the winning theme.  Send your ideas to Ilene at rimwhite@comcast.net  or Dale at dhoff128@comcast.net  by August 12.

1.       CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER ANNUAL MEETING – The annual chapter meeting was held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Medlar Field.  In addition to providing the status of the Chapter, checks from our Annual April Fools 5K with the mini-THON were provided to 4 Diamonds for $385, and from our Horse Race to Blue & White Society for $3750 and to the Lion Ambassadors for $3750 to support their THON fund raising efforts.  We were honored to have Jill Ivicic  and Gina Catalano from the Office of Student Affairs with their families as our guests.  They manage our Endowed Scholarship and Emergency Funds.  The Chapter recognized our favorite member Al Landis known to many as a.k.a. Mr. Green Finger or Mr. Trash man, with a lifetime Chapter membership award for all the years he managed our garden planting and University Drive clean-up efforts.  A fun evening was had by all and of course the Spikes won 7-6 over the Hudson Valley Renegades.  A very successful 2016!

2.      CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER  JULY  HAPPY HOUR – The July Happy Hour will be at THE TAVERN, 220 E College Ave, State College on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.    Come join your fellow alumni with cocktails, good food, and great  conversation. Meet new members or bring some friends along with you to join the Chapter.  There is a $5 charge for non-members which is waived if you become a member. Membership forms will be  available to fill out.

3.       CCCPSAA TO TOUR BREAZEALE REACTOR – A tour of the Penn State nuclear reactor has been set up for chapter members. The tour will be held on Thursday, August 4th, 10:00 a.m. and last approximately one hour. The facility is handicapped accessible; however, parking is limited and cannot be reserved. It is suggested that participants try to car pool. All participants MUST bring a current/active valid government issued photo ID.  NO ID, NO TOUR, NO EXCEPTIONS.

According to a historical marker placed on the reactor site by the Penn State Alumni Association, “Penn State in 1955 became the first university licensed by the Atomic Energy Commission to operate a nuclear reactor as part of U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower’s ‘Atoms for Peace’ program. Named for William Breazeale, Penn State’s first professor of nuclear engineering, the reactor became a training and research tool for peaceful applications of atomic energy.” There are a limited numbers of spots for the tour.  Reservations are required.  We will fill our spots on a first come first serve basis.  All additional requests will be placed on a wait list for cancellations.  Anyone not registered cannot join the tour that day unless notified by Ilene.  Contact Ilene White igw2@psu.edu  to make a reservation.

4.       SPEND A SUMMER DAY –  SASD Dates:   Friday, July 22, Monday, July 25, Thursday, July 28, Friday, July 29, Monday, August 1

Training dates:   Tuesday, July 12 @ 7:00pm and Thursday, July 14 @ 7:00 p.m.

All training will be held at the Mountain View Country Club (the old Elks at 100 Elks Club Rd., Boalsburg, PA).  All volunteers will be provided a bright blue Spend a Summer Day polo shirts.

Letters have been sent out by Undergraduate Admissions.  If you haven’t volunteered or received your volunteer form and are interested in volunteering for Spend a Summer Day, please contact our CCCPSAA Alumni Volunteer Coordinator Linda Rohrer at lcrohrer@verizon.net .

2.       CENTRE COUNTY CHAPTER ANNUAL MEETING - The annual chapter meeting will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Medlar Field in Lubrano Park.  The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. with an introductions of your Chapter Officers, a report on the state of the

Chapter, Treasurers report followed by a baseball park dinner and a Spikes Game vs. the Williamsport Phillies.  Side Gate Opens at 4:00 p.m., Meeting at 4:30 p.m. , Dinner at 5:30 p.m., First Pitch at 6:05 p.m.

Cost:      $ 35 Adults (Includes Spikes Game Ticket)

$ 25 Adults (Who have a Spikes Season Ticket)

$ 10 children (12 and under)

Do you want to be a volunteer?

We need your help! We’re looking for volunteers to help us prepare for the sale—and to assist us on sale day. It’s a great way to help out a good cause.

Information for Volunteers

  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Minors accompanying volunteers must be escorted by parent or guardian at all times.
  • Some of the items you’ll be handling may be dirty. Please dress accordingly.
  • Please arrive promptly for your shift. Special instructions are provided at the start of each shift.
  • Volunteers will receive confirmation emails with parking and additional information following

registration.

Who can volunteer?

The annual Spring Trash to Treasure sale needs hundreds of volunteers. Volunteers must be 18 years or older and minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

How are volunteers utilized?

Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs. Pre-sale volunteer opportunities include sorting, organizing, and setting up displays. Sale volunteer opportunities include working the check out lines, managing gate entry, post-sale clean up, and much more. For more information on volunteering, visit

As a volunteer, do I get to shop early and can I buy during my assigned shift?

Volunteers are able to get a look at the products before sale day by working in each venue. We do not allow volunteers to purchase items prior to sale day.

The Centre County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association hosts its 6th Annual April Fool’s 5K Run and Walk on Saturday April 9, 2016 at 10 am.

Funds raised will support the Centre County Alumni Chapter Endowed and Emergency Scholarships and the State College Mini-THON Four Diamonds Fund.

We invite all Chapter members, friends and family to participate by running, walking or dressing up to participate in our BIGGEST FOOL COSTUME CONTEST!!!!

5K Starts: 10am
Race Day Registration: 8:30am – 9:30am @ Medlar Field
Entry Fee Adult $18 Preregistered by April 4th, $25 – thereafter
Student (age 17 and under ) $12 Preregistered by April 4th, $15 – thereafter
Course: through the Penn State Campus – mostly level
